Top Flight Summer Camp FAQ

REQUIREMENTS

How do I get an invitation to Top Flight Summer Camp?
If you are currently, or have in the past, been a participant in our Top Flight program, you are welcome to register for Top Flight Summer Camp. If you have been in the High School Training or Junior Excellence program at Wessen, you may register for Top Flight Summer Camp. For players that are new to the program, admittance is based on several factors, including UTR, age, skill, dedication & experience. To learn more, please contact the Club via phone: 248-253-9300 or email Mimi at mimi@wessenitc.com. We have evaluations available Monday through Thursday, 4:30-6:30 PM. Please use the contact information above to request an evaluation.

Is there a minimum age or age limit to participate?
No. We separate the players into levels. Age does not play a significant role in determining eligibility to join the group. Skill level is the most important factor, followed by age/size.

TIME AND LOCATION

Where is the location of the Top Flight Summer Camp?
There are two locations for Camp. The Director will assign your morning location based on skill level. Most players are at Bloomfield Hills High School. The highest level players will be at Lone Pine Elementary. All players attend the afternoon session at Bloomfield Hills High School.

When does the Top Flight Summer Camp meet?
Top Flight Summer Camp meets twice-per-day:

  • Monday: 10:00a-12:00 pm (at assigned site); 1:00-3:00 pm at Bloomfield Hills High School
  • Tuesday: 10:00a-12:00 pm (at assigned site); 12:00 pm UTR Match Play at BHHS
  • Wednesday: 10:00a-12:00 pm (at assigned site); 1:00-3:00 pm at Bloomfield HIlls High School
  • Thursday: 10:00a-12:00 pm (at assigned site); 12:00 pm UTR Match Play at BHHS
  • Friday: Optional UTR Match Play at 3:00 pm (free for players that have attended both Tuesday and Thursday in the same week, or one visit)

What happens if it rains?
We move the Camp indoors to Wessen Indoor Tennis Club when it is raining.

How will I know that the Camp is indoors at Wessen?
We post updages on our Facebook page when we make the decision. You can follow us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/wessenitc. We also have our Facebook feed on the home page of our website. If it is raining where you are, it is not necessarily raining at BHHS, so check first to make sure we have moved indoors. DO NOT CALL THE CLUB. We can’t take hundreds of calls from all of our outdoor camps and classes. Check Facebook or check the homepage of our website wessenitc.com.

What if it starts raining during the group?
If we are outdoors and it starts to rain, we will either end the class early, or we will move indoors to Wessen. This will be based on the amount of time left in the class. We communicate with Facebook as soon as a decision is made. Access this information by looking at the homepage of our website. Students who need a ride to Wessen will carpool with our Tennis Professionals to the club. Again, please DO NOT call about rain concerns – the moment a decision is made to delay or cancel, we will post it on Facebook and on our website homepage.  

UTR MATCH PLAY

How does UTR Match Play work?
Players register for VERIFIED UTR Match Play on the UTR website. Summer Camp participants can use 1 visit to compete in match play. Players are guaranteed 2 matches (weather permitting.) Online registration is free for campers who want to pay with visits, however, it is necessary to register as outlined below:

Players who have a UTR Power Subscription can register FREE at any time – no special link is required. We will charge players internally 1 visit for each match play event. Note: UTR has recently added a $2.25 service fee to all verified events. We cannot override this service fee.

Players who DO NOT HAVE a UTR Power Subscription may request a special link (sent via email to mimi@wessenitc.com) to register online for FREE. The deadline to request the link is 12:00 pm two days prior to match play. We send an email reminder every Friday for the following week’s match play events with information on the deadlines.

  • Tuesday Match Play: Deadline to request the link is 12:00 pm on Sunday.
  • Thursday Match Play: Deadline to request the link is 12:00 pm on Tuesday.
  • Friday Match Play: Deadline to request the link is 12:00 pm on Wednesday.

Online registration is free with the link, and players will be charged 1 visit internally for each match play event. Note: UTR has recently added a $2.25 service fee to all verified events. We cannot override this service fee.

Players who attend both Tuesday and Thursday match play in the same week are eligible for complimentary Friday Match Play (without using an additional visit.) Players who meet the criteria for FREE Friday Match Play must sign up for Friday Match Play on the UTR website, either using the free link (as stated above,) or as a Power Subscriber. Note: UTR has recently added a $2.25 service fee to all verified events. We cannot override this service fee.

All match play results count toward the players’ VERIFIED UTR rating. This is a great opportunity to improve match play results AND boost a player’s rating over the course of the summer! There is no way to practice playing a match without playing a match. Match play is the tool to improve tournament match results.

VISITS

What is a “visit?”
A “visit” refers to a two-hour block of camp. We have a morning session ( Mon-Thurs; 10a-12pm,) an afternoon session (Mon & Wed 1-3 pm,) and match play (Tues & Thur 12:00 pm and Friday 3:00 pm.) The morning session is one visit, and the afternoon session is one visit and each day of match play is one visit. There is a possibility of two visits Monday through Thursday, and one visit on Friday.

Can I share a package with my sister/brother?
Players are not able to “share” packages, however we do offer a 10% sibling discount for families with more than one Top Flight Summer Camp participant. When registering online, please choose the “Sibling Discount” option for each player in your family. You can also choose the sibling discount for families with a combination of Green Ball Summer Camp and Top Flight Summer Camp.

What happens if I buy a package of visits, and I want to come to additional classes?
Packages can always be upgraded. For instance, if you buy a package of 10 visits, you can upgrade to 24, 48 or 90 visits at any time. You will only be charged the difference in the package price. Keep in mind that the 10% discount ends on May 27, 2025 and will not carry forward into the summer if you decide to upgrade. The same is true for the 15% Kick-Off discount.

What if I only want to come to a couple of extra classes beyond my package limit?
If you buy a package and want to come to extra classes, you will be charged a per-visit rate of $65.00.

What if I don’t use all of my visits by the end of the summer?
Top Flight Summer Camp session packages do not extend into the fall or winter sessions.  With twice-per-day visits and opportunities for match play three times each week, there are plenty of opportunities to use up your visits.

Keep in mind that if you don’t use all of your visits, you are still saving on the daily per-time rate. For instance, if you purchase a 48 visit package and only come 40 times, you are still saving money. A 24 visit package is $1200, and a 48 visit package is $1810. If you would have purchased the 24 visit package and paid the per-time rate for the additional visits, you would have ended up paying $2240 for 40 visits (that $430 more than a 48 visit package price.) So even if you don’t use every last visit, you are still coming out way ahead. Check with Mimi to see where you are with your visits, and make an effort to come to Camp or match play enough times to use them all up.

How do I pay for a drop-in “per-time” visit?
Drop-in, per-time visits are $95 for players who have not purchased a package, and $65 for players who want to add on to their current package. Please call the Club to pay over the phone 248-253-9300 or bring cash or check on-site for Mimi. If you are bringing cash or check, please let us know in advance that you are coming by calling the club or emailing Mimi at mimi@wessenitc.com. In all cases, payment must be made either before or at the time of the visit. Any monies payed for “per-time” visits will be applied to the package cost, should you decide to buy a package.

RACQUET STRINGING

Do you offer racquet stringing services during the summer months?
Yes, we offer 48 hour turnaround for racquet stringing during the summer months. You may drop-off/pick-up your racquet(s) at Bloomfield Hills High School or Wessen Indoor Tennis Club. If you are dropping your racquet off at Lone Pine Elementary, please text Mimi at 248-410-9451 or email her at mimi@wessenitc.com and she will pick it up at the site and coordinate the delivery.
